But be filled with the Spirit, Addressing one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, Singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart Ephesians 5:18b-19 Even though there is a move away from a centralized place and form of worship in the New Testament, our gatherings do need some form and order. When reading through the New Testament with an eye for how the early church worshipped, we begin to see two categories emerge: 1. Channels for the mind to apprehend the truth of God's reality 2. Channels for the heart to respond to the beauty of that truth One of the "channels" God has graciously given us to respond to His manifold perfections is music. We sing because God is a singing God. (Rom. 15:8-12; Heb. 2:12) When we sing, we're participating in God's song of redemption. At ANCF we are led in singing praise to God by worship teams, adult and children's choirs. |
