Living with Christ
Saturday, 14 January 2012 07:55
"But if we have died with Christ we believe that we also shall live with him" (Rom. 6:8).

Living with Christ began with His death for our death, His resurrection for our resurrection and then His life for our life. This does not mean that Christ is not distinguished from us, Christians. He is the head and we are members of His body. He is exalted at the right hand of God, until His enemies should be made a stool for His feet (Heb. 12:13). We are not yet exalted and we are still on earth. Moreover, our life with Him transcends our existence and is still hidden.

What does it mean, then, to live with Christ? It means that we are to seek our life in the here and now, not from below, but from above where we are true citizens (Phil. 3:10).  Said Paul, "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on things that are of the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ will appear, then you will also appear with Him in glory" (Colossians 3:1-4).

As Christ is above, so too are believers in so far as we are in Christ. When we set our affections above, we live a life that is worthy of Christ and in an appropriate and responsible relation to the archetypical and exemplary life of Christ (Ro. 6:9-14). This entails living in attentiveness to Christ, abiding in Christ (Jo. 15:4), taking every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Cor. 10:5) and putting to death or away what is earthly in us that is against God and keeps us from doing Gods will and from being fully committed to Christ. (Col. 3:5-17).

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace this New Year.
